Meet the Artist

Twenty years ago Ned Bowne, a "Saturday Painter," began to paint seriously at the Barn Gallery at the Ridgewood Art Institute, studying with John Phillip Osborne. Bowne's primary interest has been in the area of "still life" painting, where he strives to create romance where objects emerge from a dark shadow. Rusted, dented kettles and copper pots often surrounded by apples or a chipped jug lying on its side are what intrigues the artist. The drama in a painting is always increased by that "spot of light" or "highlight" which makes the painting come alive.

After a thirty year career as a school administrator, retirement made it possible to begin full-time studio and plein air painting. He has won many awards for his paintings in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania where he has been a member of the Bloomfield Art League, The West Essex Art Association, and in Pennsylvania, the Bethlehem Palette Club.

Ned Bowne resides in Bethlehem where he maintains a studio. Visits to this studio are always welcome where paintings are offered for sale. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the artist at ned@nedbowne.com or 610-758-9331.
